A breathtaking panorama
Please note: The fortress and the falcon show is opened only from May to Octobre. On all other dates, we would visit „the salt mine“ (click here for more info) in Hallein - close to Werfen - instead..
This tour is an amazing historical experience for young and old.
Driving to the southern rural area of Salzburg, among the many higher mountains (about 2500-3000m) there is a medieval castle called “The Fortress Hohenwerfen".
We visit this fortress and there is a fantastic falcon show (the show is a "world cultural heritage" by Unesco ) led by professional falconeers dressed in the historical costume. When you visit the inside of the castle, besides interesting stories from the Middle Ages, a truely breathtaking panoramic view of the area of Werfen with it's rich nature, fields and high mountains will be waiting for you!
From the Fortress you can also see the hill where Maria sang with the children "Do-Re-Mi " in the film "The Sound Of Music"; you might imagine hearing her singing “The hills are alive...” all over the hills and mountains there!
